Modern logistics warehouses in the automotive and supplier industries require standardized container concepts, in which goods are distributed just-in-time. The goods are fed into the supply chain of operating assembly lines. inos has implemented the world’s first image processing robot-based solution for cost effective destacking and separation of mixed loaded KLT palettes (small load carriers). According to container dimensions, which vary in length, width and height, the system must be able to determine individual locations, locate a single KLT, grip it safely and, despite varying heights, deposit it without collisions. inos Depal independently locates the position and orientation of various KLTs within a palette layer, grips the individual container and subsequently sets this down in the discharge position of the conveyor technology. In this way, inos SIR makes a system framework available in which measurement principles such as scanning and camera systems deliver their data to a cell which analyses it and then makes this information available to guide the robot.

The recognition of the KLTs by the inos SIR system is a multistage system in which the first localization of the pallets position and height is estimated and then the fine localization of the next KLT to be picked up is carried out.

The Intelligent KLT-Gripper

The heart of the system is a complex, adjustable tool, the KLT-gripper. This innovative, in-house developed gripper, combined with cameras and scanners, enables the system to determine the shape, size and position of the KLT, and grip it safely.
